The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the Tumana Bridge in Marikina City
Built at a cost of P130 million, the 175-meter Tumana Bridge connects two major districts: Barangay Tumana in Marikina and Balara in Quezon City. It is expected to cut travel time to and from either city by as much as half an hour.
Prior to the completion of the Tumana Bridge, it took motorists as much as an hour to navigate the same route that traverses Don Mariano Highway or Katipunan Avenue.
According to DPWH Engineer Jose Balite, the Tumana Bridge will also resolve another problem: impassability due to flooding. That problem plagued the old spillway for many years, especially during the rainy season; Balite said. ;The new Tumana Bridge has been constructed to withstand floods and typhoons, ensuring motorists a safe passage.
